how good is the ankle support? Is this a high top type of shoe?

They fit like an athletic shoe, except there isn’t as much grip around the ankle as a tie shoe; hence, your heal is going to slip out if you try to run!

Bought a similar pair in the wide width i usually wear. they are too loose. do i need to order a different size because it is a loafer?

I find after wearing skechers for years that most any of the slip on no lace are at least a half size too large for me. I do wear a double wide show so that may not be the same for everyone. I find I prefer the lace up for seriously walking but for casual use cannot beat the slip ONS and for casual use.

They're not flipflops, more like slip on running shoes. I bought a pair of the gray/black at a local shoe store and I'm very satisfied with the look and feel of the shoes. I can wear them all day long, which is very rare for me with shoes.

Several reviews describe soles as hard, inflexible, and slippery on wet surfaces -- is this still true / have changes been made to fix these?

The soles of the shoes are slip/skid resistant. They are mot hard and very flexible, the upper is a little firmer for easy slipon
