New York Times Bestseller! 5 Starred Reviews! "Will have listeners in stitches." — Kirkus Reviews (starred review) "Purely absurd, sidesplitting humor." — Booklist (starred review) "Demands bombastic, full-volume performances." — Publishers Weekly (starred review) "Perfect for a guffawing share with younger sibs or buddy read." — BCCB (starred review) "The sort of story that makes children love to read." — School Library Journal (starred review) From acclaimed, bestselling creators Drew Daywalt, author of The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day the Crayons Came Home , and Adam Rex, author-illustrator of Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich , comes a laugh-out-loud hilarious picture book about the epic tale of the classic game Rock, Paper, Scissors. "I couldn’t stop laughing while reading this aloud to a group of kids," commented the founder of Bookopolis.com, Kari Ness Riedel. Review: Great read for kids! - Adorable story! Review: Delightful read for 4-7 year-olds - My five-year-old grandson loves this book. I ordered it after seeing it recommended for 4-7 year-olds and was pleased with the result. My grandson did not know the game, so I taught it to him before reading him the book (yes, he wanted to wait to see what I chose, so that he could win!). The made-up legend is presented as an origin story for three great heroes: Rock, Paper, and Scissors. I would recommend reading it as if you were announcing professional wrestling--i.e., just match your voice and intonation to the print size and you should be fine. Read in a normal, quiet, reading voice and it would be a bit of a snore. But "ROCK IS VICTORIOUS" read with excitement and a wee bit of volume brings giggles. What also brings giggles are words like "underpants"--just saying the word is likely to get any four or five year-year-old dissolving into shocked laughter. My grandson also adopted Paper's watch phrase, "Wait. What!?" Which then allowed his mother and I to explain what a "private joke" was. If you're looking for lessons-to-be-learned, you'll have to work hard. Here are a few you could derive from the text: 1. Winning all the time stops being fun if you don't have a challenger equal to your skills. 2. Different people have different skills where they excel (Rock wins on pure strength, Paper by cleverness, Scissors with her unexpected snipping action). 3. Competition does not have to be angry--after Rock, Paper, and Scissors finally get together the continue a "glorious" and "joyous" competition because they finally have a chance of losing. But, I had to work hard to pull those out, and it would probably ruin the experience to pull out morals. "The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors" might be low on lessons learned, but it is high on delight.

Great book. Read this to my daughter class when I went in for Mystery reader. Was a great hit. Also bought rock paper scissor erasers on Amazon to give out to go with theme of book. Book is a good read for 7 year olds and kept there attention. Book is well illustrated. Good value and well written. Would buy again. Highly recommend this to any teachers or parents with kids in elementary levels.

Got this for my girls turns out it was for my husband
IT IS SO GOOD! One of the greatest hits we’ve ever had at bedtime! I was trying to find a book that was fun and funny and this is that book. I think I’ve told 4 other mom friends about this book. It’s hilarious. My husband was on level 100 reading it, he was laughing so hard and kept saying “this is incredible.” We have 3 little girls and this was an extra special treat for him! It does say “butt” on one of the pages so not sure how you guys do books with your kids but wanted to mention that. Otherwise can’t recommend it enough, it is truly an epic tale.

Must have book!
I love this story. I purchased it to use in my grade 1 class and my students loved it. Even better, there are so many opportunities to use it in cross curricular activities for teaching and learning (language, math, social studies). The story is fun and engaging and so relevant to a children's popular game. I found the price reasonable for a hard cover book and it arrived in great condition. I highly recommend this book.
