No. I tried to make an additional half cup of tea and gently opened the bag. It worked, but barely. It leaked a few leaves while it was steeping. They're great for single use.

Can they also be used for coffee?

This was such an interesting question that I thought I'd give it a try. It's difficult to pull the string closed totally so while I don't mind a few tea leaves in my tea the coffee grounds are a little more annoying but not terrible. I did brew a fairly decent cup of coffee with only a few floating coffee grounds because I gently pulled the string as tightly closed as I could.
