Review: Accurate, excellent quality, and easy to use! - The item arrived safely and comes delivered in retail packaging and with the camera you get a carry case, USB charge cable and the user guide. The quality of the camera is very good, its well-made and it looks like it can stand up to a fair amount of abuse (2m drop protection) as the whole body of the camera is covered in a rubber housing. The carry case is also a nice addition and helps to keep the camera safe. Turning it on takes about 10 seconds and you are greeted with a clear and easy display to read. It hasn’t got a ton of options which makes it nice and simple to operate, there are three different colour scales to choose from and you can view the temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit. If you insert a memory card then you can take images to view later, the images are saved in BMP format with a resolution of 320 x 240. A thermal camera is such a useful device to have as it can identify problem areas such as cold spots in radiators, thermal weaknesses in walls, and tons of other things. Although not in the trade I do build high specs computers and the camera really helps to visualise the hotter areas inside the case and where I need to concentrate the fans on. The camera is quick to give readouts and shows the high and low points as well as a readout on what you have centred on screen. Its easy to see/know what your looking at and it seems very accurate as the temperature of an object in the room reads the same as the ambient temperature according to my thermometer. Every now and then while using it the camera freezes for a few seconds while it calibrates, or you can manually do this by pressing the right-hand button. Overall, considering how expensive these thermal cameras can be I feel Klein Tools have made an excellent product that is compact, easy to use and high quality all while being priced very competitively. It’s a very useful gadget and one that I’m more than happy to recommend, an easy five stars from me!
Review: Perfect tool to keep in your work bag! - As an architect, a thermal imaging camera comes in extremely handy for checking cold spots and air flow. It can be used on an existing building to help me design a better solution or for checking something was built properly with insulation without uncovering walls. I thought I would try this one because it’s a small self contained unit that doesn’t require a phone connection or bulky carry case. Getting this device out of the packet you can instantly see how small but premium the product is. It’s built very well with an orange textured rubber surrounding it to absorb any drops and make it easy to hold. The screen on the back is bright and the temperatures are easy to see. It gives you the centre point, high and low. The power and camera button are on the top with menu controls on the back, there are a number of items to customise including the colour scheme, brightness and emissivity. It only has a low resolution of about 10000 pixels which is on par with the entry level Flir ones however for most trades people this should be more than enough to diagnose problems and and understand the thermals on site, having used larger more expensive models this does everything I need from it. This one doesn’t have an image sensor in it to take normal pictures like some of the others but again it’s not something I miss. The best part about this is it’s size and accuracy, it works best when you’re within a few meters and has a fairly narrow field of view to focus on particular areas. I have noticed that if you move it around quickly it takes a few seconds to calibrate itself and this will freeze the screen so you either have to move it slowly or get it in position and wait. Overall I’m very impressed with this little device and it’s perfect for taking everywhere with me just in case. It’s completely self contained and charges with a micro usb so I don’t have to carry batteries around. There are better ones on the market but not in this price range and certainly not this small. Hopefully my review has been helpful.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Would this pick up an animal outside in the pitch black?**
A: This is a thermal sensor so it doesn't use light, it uses thermal energy. It's a fine little 'thermal imager' and doesn't have a low-light camera like a more expensive 'thermal camera', so all you see is temperature differences. It's also a low-resolution sensor and has a narrow field of view. It works best for things that are near by, like a fuse box, pizza oven, or pan on a stove, and it will show an infected spot on a dog's back. If there's a temperature difference between the animal and surroundings and the animal was large enough I think you'd see it, but if it was more than ten or twenty yards away a small animal would only show up as a few pixels and might not be useful. The thermal sensor on my drone is high resolution and will spot an animal in the woods from a couple hundred feet up, but it's a $3000 sensor made to be used from a distance, and it also has a low-light camera that makes it easier to interpret the thermal image. This little TI250 is good value at $300, and it might show a warm animal on a cold night. Mine will show my dogs, one is a ten pound minpin, in the dark inside the fence just fine, but that's less than 50 or 60 feet out. Sorry I can't answer for sure, but that's my experience. I think one of the higher resolution thermal cameras would be better for hunting or spotting animals at any distance in the dark. IR cameras depend on using a 'bright' IR illuminator that will spook some animals and has limited range, so thermal is the way to go. I'd be looking for something with a 320 or 640 pixel sensor and a low light camera to do that, one of the handheld units that similar to the thermal sensor on my drone. It's seldom pitch dark, and starlight or the glow off of clouds is usually enough so that the low light or 'night vision' camera is useful. You've asked another customer, might get a better answer if you use the 'contact seller' link.

**Q: Are the batteries replaceable?**
A: No. And sadly the chemistry of the batteries only last a couple of years. This is a common problem with many new devices.

**Q: Will this pick up pipes and electrical circuits through regular dry wall ? What about horse hair plaster walls?**
A: if the pipe is really hot depends on how well insulated that wall is

**Q: What range can it detect. How many feet in distance?**
A: It works best within 20'

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Compact and Easy to Use
*by C***S on 7 November 2020*

The thermal imaging camera is extremely compact and very comfortable to grip. The outer case is padded and feels like it would take small impacts and protect the unit. There are 3 colour scales to choose from (1 being black and white then 2 different colour) to help choose the best scale which suits the situation. When you point the unit at your designated area, any hot spots instantly stand out in red, the cold areas in blue, and in between green/yellow. This makes it easy to find hot spots in both domestic (see attached photo of extension socket) and commercial (see attached photo of inside a BMS control panel). During my investigation of a control panel I found no problems, only transformers and relay coils showing heat. However had there been any loose power connections, these would have shown up as red, and the panel could have been corrected. Another nice feature is that the temperature of the object you are pointing at is displayed in the top left hand corner of the screen. This was test against calibrated temperature probes and found to be accurate. This was useful in checking the temperatures of sensors on site that was experiencing cold temperatures. The only flaw I found with this unit was that it does not warn if the memory card is full. During my first site investigation I pushed the shutter button to take many photos and at no time did it give a photo failed message. When I got back to download the images I found there were none. I deleted all the files off the memory card and it worked perfectly. I now know that the camera will prompt each time if you wish to save the photo when the card is not full, and it does not do this when the card is full. The images are saved in BMP format and are 320 x 240 resolution, this is not large if you were doing photography, but more than big enough for thermal imagining purposes. The imager came with a USB charging lead and a zip carry case.
