Kayak Roof Rack, Aluminum Kayak Carrier Folding J-Style Universal 3-in-1 Multifunction for Canoe, SUP, Kayaks, Surfboard Rooftop Mount on SUV, Car and Truck Crossbars

Easy to install on our existing square Thule Bars. Once locked in, the J Bars are holding our 15 foot Tandem Kayak securely. Hardware quality seems nice as well, time will tell. The folding feature is great if you’re not taking your roof bars on and off, so the J bars or hooks lay flat when not needed. Slightly tweaks needed for optimum performance, but easily done. And they were available, something that’s a huge factor with Covid Times Back Orders on many outdoor items like Kayak Mounting Systems or Roof Bars The only knock I could give this system is this, I needed to a a few wraps of rubber tire inner tube around the Thule Bars to get a fully locked, non-wiggling connection from these J-Bars even with the locking knobs fully tightened. The bottom bar that secures the J Bars or Hooks to whatever roof bar system you have are more of a universal shape , to match round, square and aero bar shapes. I suspect that’s why we had the wiggling before adding the rubber shins of inner tubing around the bars. Once added however, all play was gone.

These are high-quality racks, and I love the fold-down feature that lets me keep them on and still pull into the garage. Our 10-foot Pelican Pioneer kayaks fit perfectly on them! The bolts used to secure the racks are very long (maybe too long for some factory vehicle rails, could scratch the roof) but it fits perfectly on our 2019 Subaru Outback. I appreciate the fact that it's aluminum so it won't rust if it gets wet. Overall a good buy! We've already used it to take the yaks to the lake and we encountered a few potholes/bumps on the road but the kayaks held strong on these racks. The straps held great but we may upgrade to heavy duty ones for peace of mind after some long-term use or for long-distance trips since these straps aren't very heavy duty, but they work perfectly fine for short-distance trips.

I used these racks to transport my kayaks on a 10hr drive at highway speeds. Everything worked great except the enclosed straps. One failed during the trip. The buckle stayed intact, but the actual strap broke. Even with this, I would recommend this product.

Holds 2 kayaks well, but I imagine if I spread the racks out I could fit another in the middle if need be. The straps that come with it are decent, but I'll likely use a single ratchet holding the yaks together in the center as well. They look like they are good quality because they ARE good quality. Mounting them was an absolute breeze. Each one has two twist nuts to tighten them down. Also very easy to loosen them and reposition if needed. The paddle holders are nice but the strap is a little hard to release.. and by a little I mean probably more than its worth if you can spare room inside for them.. There was no wind noise at all other than if a strap vibrates in the wind no matter the speed. As other reviews have mentioned the top part of the mounting area has no padding so it WILL scratch your crossbar over time I'm sure.. but its a cargo rack so you shouldn't be worried about that anyway. Overall I'd give it a 9/10. Really the only thing I'd want is those paddle straps to be easier to release..

The rack was easy to install, sturdy, holds my kayak well and is cheaper than the products offered by larger competitors. I park in a high-rise garage so the ability to fold them down vs having to take them off my car to park is very convenient - though they are very easy to install and remove so I could have done that as well. When I first tried to install the rack, I was installing it on my factory cross bars on my Toyota Highlander and the screws were too long. I had the screws cut off so they wouldn't damage my car. I also placed a thin layer of rubber underneath the rack so it was more secure than metal on metal. It worked beautifully. When I upgraded my roof rack system, IKURAM sent me new screws as I then needed the extra length for the thicker crossbars and had trouble finding the correct size at the hardware store. Customer service was very responsive. I am now looking for a couple extra bolts (they are the hand-tightening kind) - which are also proving difficult to find as well. I am hoping customer service may assist me in finding those as well - stay tuned. Overall the product is great.

Let me start by saying I will be contacting Amazon about this product, as I think it is a safety hazard. I will no longer use them. Yesterday, 9/25/21, my wife and I traveled an hour from home to a lake to enjoy our kayaks. This is the 2nd time I’ve used them. The ride there was fine. On our way back, I was approximately 5 minutes from home when one of the kayaks flew off of the rack and hit the windshield of another vehicle behind me. After pulling over and making sure the single occupant of the other vehicle was ok, I went to inspect the rack. The rear strap on my passenger side broke, causing the kayak to slide backward and off of my vehicle. Check out the pictures and decide for yourself if this product is worth it.

The main holders are aluminum and will not rust. The nuts and bolts do rust and ruined the top of my car. This would be a 5 star product if the hardware was stainless steel.

The brilliant thing about these carriers is that they are able to fold or unfold fully, so when installed but not used they don't add any height to your vehicle. However the carrier is designed to sit on a 1 1/4" or less flat crossbars. Anything wider, the carrier will have one contact point. Crossbars of shapes other than flat will have only 2 contact points and will get scratched or possibly damaged. I tried to highlight that in the pictures as I had 1 1/2" crossbars and had to switch them to 1 1/4". With that said, I give them 5 stars, the install and removal is a breeze and they seem very sturdy.
