Don’t do it
I’ve been buying crickets for a (used to be) baby bird I found and they’ve been about $17/100 at a major pet store. The little guy eats a lot so checked Amazon and was presently surprised at this deal for 1000 which is A LOT cheaper. It didn’t show up for 5 days… and by the time it did most of them were dead. They did not put any type of food or any water source. Couldn’t throw a couple of carrots in there. And then I contacted them and they ignored me. When I get 100 crickets (which by the way are bigger and juicier at the big pet store) it lasts me 4 or 5 days. This box of 1000 mostly dead crickets didn’t last a full 2 days. Bad customer service, bad product.

Good product
My crickets came on time. Size was correct. Very few dead ones which can’t be helped with shipping. I’m happy. I’ll be buying again.

The box is not sealed
Bro, the box is not sealed. Like when I say not sealed it's a normal box with a thin strip of tape on the outer flaps only and applied loosely. I set the box down on the floor inside my home and walked away to finish my work, and returned to the crickets all over my lower-level living room. :O To say that I was instantly disgusted and freaked out is an understatement but I figure the best thing to do was get the remaining crickets contained and then grab my shop vac for the rogue crickets that had already made their escape into my home. Upon opening the box I discovered the issue the crickets are loose inside the outer box so opening it was also a disaster. There was an immediate volcano 🌋 of crickets followed by another wave and another wave... I quickly clapped the box flaps back down and ran for the door 🚪 sprinkling more awol crickets across my home, and ended up in my pajamas on my driveway covered in crickets 🦗 while my neighbors looked on in visible concern as I proceed to panic throw the box down and run around trying to get them off me and my clothes. The curved bill Thrasher living in my bush out front found a lot of joy in his free meal and a show tho and happily came down and ate his fill of the casualties. My son's bearded dragon Ender 🐉 enjoyed her meal after the crisis was over but I am not gonna order these again... I'll go back to the other company with a sealed cricket box habitat Inside a shipping box and the habitat box has a pour spout and ventilation installed on the habitat. 📦

Honest review
I read all the reviews on all different sizes from Bassetts sales. With my first purchase I figured if I even got half of my order alive I would still be ahead with regards to gas and what I’m paying in the big box pet store. My first shipment was great so I have placed a few orders without much incident. The only minor gripe I’d had until this last order was that you never really know what size crickets you’re going to get. So after my 2nd order I started ordering smaller just in case. Plus that gave me time to house them until my baby bearded dragon at them all. My first few orders were 500 crickets. Since there had been no real issues my last order was for 1000. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ORDERING 1000! It’s impossible to count these things, but here is what I know to be true. I had at least a weeks worth of crickets from my previous order of 500 in my cricket housing tank (where I keep them like pets Feeding and watering until feeding time for our BD) when I received my shipment of “1000”. Within about 15 days I was nearly out of crickets. Doing the math means I was shorted crickets considerably. Running out that quickly means I would’ve had to be feeding my baby BD over 60 crickets a day. We feed roaches, crickets and larva. In this round of bugs we feed about 20-30 roaches for breakfast and about 20-30 crickets for dinner. Bottom line- they didn’t sell us 1000. My gripe is not that we were shorted so much as the seller has completely ignored our messages for about a week now and doesn’t appear to have responded to Amazons customer service messages either. I wasn’t hoping for a refund, but just want to other half of my shipment. And maybe an apology. Not sure I’ll buy from Bassetts again unless the seller has sent an apology. Amazon guarantees the sale so I’ll get my $35 back anyway. Seems like a silly way to lose a customer. Hope this review saves you some time and energy.
