Resideo 36-Inch Replacement Thermocouple

My Empire RH-35-7 heater was always difficult to light, right from the factory. I had to hold down the "pilot" dial at least 1 minute, sometimes 2, before the pilot would "catch" and stay lit. After replacing the thermocouple with this one, it would "catch" after about 10 seconds! I measured the old thermocouple with a voltmeter before I installed this one. It would take about 45 seconds to reach 10 millivolts, and wouldn't go higher than 20 after two minutes. (It's supposed to generate 30 millivolts). Granted, it was pretty much worn out; but If you're having similar issues, don't mess around - - - about 5 minutes of work will save you a lot of aggravation. Wish I had done it a few years ago!

Every couple of years one of these goes out in either our hot water heater, steam heat furnace, or gas fireplace. I always have a spare on the shelf as these aren't meant to last forever - they are a consumable part. What you don't want is to be caught without heat in the middle of a Michigan winter on a Sunday night and have to pay multiple body parts for someone to come out and fix it for you. If you are reasonably handy you can replace these yourself. Even if you aren't very handy but have some basic tools it isn't hard and you'll save yourself at least $100 in a visit from the friendly neighborhood HVAC repair person. It is something so basic and so common - like owning a plunger for the toilet or sink clog - that every home owner should have and know how to do. That or be ready to pay through the nose. The only pain is getting the old unit out of its clamp holder and figuring out which adapter to use to mount this in your unit. But a little experimenting goes a long way.

My local plumbing supply store was closed and I was forced to buy one from HD. It worked but I had to retro fit the fittings from the original resideo thermo coupler. I ordered extra resideo couplers to keep my plumbing bag.

Functional and easy to replace for you DIYers. Happy to find it at a reasonable price on Amazon since I find myself buying a new one every few years.

Thermocouple went bad so I needed a replacement. Easy to install and works perfect.

You need to be careful when you buy these and make sure it's the right fitment. The model for my water heater show as the right fitment but it uses the wired kind which this is not. This is a perfectly good probe if you need this style, you just need to make sure that's the right style that actually fits your water here.
