Excellent alternative to chemical-laden products.
After experiencing skin burns with a different product (more on that later) I decided to search for an alternative and stumbled upon the Younger Looking Beard (TYLB). I have been using it for nearly 1 year (having ordered several over the course of the past year) and am 100% satisfied. I have been meaning to write a review but have been too lazy. Before I explain how I use the product, and the results, it’s good to know how I keep my facial hair. I keep my beard at about 1.5 mm length (not quite as short as a 5 ‘o’clock shadow, but also not extremely long). I trim it daily, so the length is fairly consistent. I’d say I have about 30% gray spread throughout various areas of my facial hair. My hair color is dark brown. The product comes packaged with 3 items – the coloring talc (I use dark brown), an ‘applicator’ brush’ and also a ‘spreader brush.’ The applicator brush is about the length of a pencil and the hairs are somewhat narrow at the end – allowing for accuracy. The idea is to apply the talc, then go back over the area with the spreader brush to even out the talc. I don’t use the spreader brush, I just use the applicator brush and then trim my facial hair thereafter with my beard trimmer. This produces consistent and desirable results – of course, you may need a different method if you keep your hair longer or have more gray. Each person is different. The product definitely does an efficient job of masking the gray – and no one else is the wiser. It looks natural – and I’d say better than other, more popular national products. For myself, the application process takes a few minutes (again, for those with longer facial hair it may take longer). It is easy to fit in as part of my morning routine. The product does a fairly efficient job of staying put on one’s face. I do a very intense workout every day and sweat profusely. I was worried the product might ‘weep’ from my face during or after my workout. It did not. In fact, I’d say even after showering the product show signs of effectiveness. To remove the product, you would need to actively scrub the facial hair with a soapy wash cloth. So, if you are worried the product might not stick, you need not worry. Lastly, and most important, the product causes no allergic reactions. A previous product I used, which required chemicals to be mixed from 2 different tubes, literally caused chemical burns to my face. It was so bad that I had to see my dermatologist. He prescribed prescription strength facial cream (hydrocortisone) which thankfully cleared it up. Needless to say, I will never use that product again. I have experienced zero such issues with TYLB – which was my primary goal when I set out to find an alternative.

Did the formulation change?
Product works, but formulation seems to have changed in the last couple of deliveries I’ve received …the product is much more powdery and granular and breaks up quite easily in the container. I’m getting far less usages out of a container than I used to and it goes on much thicker than it used to requiring me to brush out quite a bit of it to get the desired color. The product needs to be hardened a little bit with some kind of additive. I’ve never had this problem in the past it’s only recently something seems to have changed in the formulation.

Interesting stuff! I like!
This is interesting stuff. I don't LOVE it yet, but I might. I’ve had it only a few days, but I can give you some early impressions. I have salt-and-pepper hair but a pure white beard (and thus the problem) in a Van Dyke style — just mustache and chin, fairly closely trimmed, which is ideal for this product. With a stubble beard I think you’d get it on your skin, and with a full or long beard (or both!) it would take forever to cover. I used Just For Men for years but became increasingly allergic to it. TYLB is a super-fine colored talc that you brush on dry with a tiny paint brush, then spread around (if necessary) with a tiny bottle brush. It’s NOTHING LIKE Just For Men. It’s powder. It’s dry; you don’t mix it. The talc covers lightly and leaves lots of gray; for heavier coverage you apply more. It’s so fine that it easily penetrates the hairs and sticks pretty well. (I try to avoid breathing it because, hey, talc + lungs, probably not the best.) If you dab your dry beard with a tissue some will come off, but after a few dabs that stops. If you get a dark spot on your skin, just stop and rub it out; sometimes it requires a damp cloth. Should get better with practice. I do get some talc dust on my hands and on the sink, so I now lay down a paper towel first. Wipes off effortlessly. It’s a cover, not a dye; it’ll rub off if you’re determined but in normal use it stays put just fine. Soap and water in the shower takes it out easily. The literature says it takes a minute or so to apply. Takes me about five, but I’m learning and being careful. I’m getting faster. I don’t love having to apply it every day, but I don’t think I have an option. That said, it’s easy and it’ll become part of the routine. It probably comes off in the pool. Haven’t tried that yet. The color is wrong for me so I’ve ordered another, and I’m going to try mixing them, which will consist of dabbing the brush into two containers like an artist but with powder, then applying. One interesting thing is that the powder is dull, and it dulls any natural luster your hair has; if you cover your hair totally it wouldn’t look quite natural, at least to my eye. Leaving gray showing — which in my case is fine because it matches my hair — keeps most of the luster. I plan to keep going with this. We’ll see how it is in a month, but I expect it to be fine. Like I said, interesting product, LOVE not having the rash. Can’t beat the price. I’d say definitely worth a road test.
