Ernie Ball 8-String Skinny Top Heavy Bottom Slinky Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings, 9-80 Gauge (P02624)

These fit my eight-string perfectly. I really like the skinny top / heavy bottom feel, especially for heavier riffs and metal. The low end stays tight and controlled, and yeah, they chug really well. There’s a lot of clarity in these strings. Cleans sound clear and defined, and once you get into distortion or heavier styles, they really come through. Progressive stuff, metal, pretty much anything heavy works well with this set. They feel good under the fingers and respond nicely during setup. The tension feels right, and they sit well on the fretboard without fighting you. The nickel plating feels clean and smooth, and I haven’t noticed any weird residue or dirt on my fingertips. Overall, these are clean, high-quality strings that sound warm and bright on cleans, but still hold together great once you add gain. For around fifteen bucks, this is exactly what I expect from Ernie Ball. Definitely recommend these if you’re looking for a solid heavy set for an eight-string.

Because they are a lighter gage, you will just need to make sure you understand how to adjust your saddles carefully so that you don't break the thinner strings. Your experience may be different, but for me it took an already great guitar and made it so much better. The strings truly play wonderfully, and when I play ragtime licks on this guitar, it really comes alive! Ernie Ball strings are always great!

Works well on my 7 string, chugs hard.

I went with these for my 12 string Gretsch Electromatic. I don't play my 12 string daily and it is in storage frequently for weeks. The .010 gauge sets always concerned me on 12 string guitars - that's a lot of pressure on the neck. When I stumbled on this .008 12 string set, I had to try them out. So-far, I love them! It is noticeably easier to play and I can feel less tension on the neck. I couldn't be happier. They sound great and I feel better knowing I can leave the guitar tuned to standard E tuning and not tempt fate with damage. Definitely my future go-to string set for my 12 string.

Lighter gage strings but sound really nice.

These strings are slightly heavier than the D'Addario pack. They come sealed, so you can keep them around and they stay fresh. Strings themselves are great - sound great, easy to string and tune. Switching from a lighter pack to these solved the fret buzz problem on my Kiesel A2 on the lower three strings, really good stuff.

The 74 gauge was snug, but it slid through my new locking tuners thanks to the tapering on the non business end of the string. The 64 gauge, however, will not go in the hole because, you guessed it, it was not tapered. So i had to use my old tuner to accommodate. The 17 snapped like an old shoestring when I got just outside of a step and a half of the desired tuning in Drop G standard. This is why I always buy pairs of string sets. .The second 17 has settled in at an incredible tautness and the string just can't wait to leave your finger just after contact which sets up fluid tapping.The 30 and 42 are hanging on for dear life as they have come to rest at what appears to be a maximum tautness at a half step flat of the target. I am sure they are the next to go and then I will have to step down to a 28 and a 40. The 54 and 74 are perfect, The 64 just needs the taper like the 74 and you have a perfect top three for a 26.5" scale that will fit any peg with maximum taut. Unless you want that "Rhunk" sound on the lower registers you are going to want taut strings. That is why i opted for this set, Even the 74 dropped to G is taut, but not as much as the others. the 74 had just enough give to provide bends and still remain locked in the desired tuning. I knew I was going to lose at least one string trying to snug up but, I hate flop. Flop sucks. I leave off the 5th star because of the non-tapered 64.
